IP4OS General Assembly focuses on the future of the project
On 25 September 2025, IP4OS held its General Assembly online, bringing together project partners as well as the IP4OS project officer and policy adviser to align on the project’s next steps. The meeting departed from traditional retrospective reporting and instead concentrated on future efforts across all work packages.
The session opened with a welcome by project coordinator Julia Priess-Buchheit, who outlined the objectives of the assembly. A keynote talk by Bertil Egger Beck followed, addressing policy actions on Secondary Publication Rights and data legislative, sparking discussion on how these might shape upcoming activities. He highlighted the role of IP4OS as a valuable knowledge resource—both in informing policy and in disseminating knowledge to practitioners.
The central part of the agenda was dedicated to the development of the work packages, each highlighting future initiatives and inviting collaboration:
- WP2 Synergy Framework Development – Gautam Sharma (KI) presented findings from evidence gathering and engagement, focusing on best practices to guide the development of the Synergy Framework.
- WP3 Open Innovation Challenges and Engagement Activities – Katharina Miller (MIK) outlined a programme of six upcoming webinars on IP and Open Science, high-level events in Madrid and Brussels, and the co-development of an Open Innovation Challenge on IPRs, OS, and AI. Additionally, MIK focused on developing policy briefs informing stakeholders on valorisation strategies.
- WP4 Training Materials and Training Centre Implementation – Claire Fritz (EURICE) introduced the rollout of the Training Centre through 27 national pilots across Europe by mid-2026, connecting to WP3’s engagement activities. A clear strategy for internal training, learning modules and training activities for the 27 teams has been outlined, starting in December 2025. As of today, 22 member states have already confirmed their participation and strong interest in the training.
- WP5 Dissemination, Exploitation, and Communication – Natali Dobreva (Pensoft Publishers) presented the upcoming communication actions and initiated discussion on the dissemination strategy.
The assembly concluded with Julia’s lightning session on Research Security and closing remarks, emphasising next steps and the importance of collaboration. By focusing on upcoming priorities rather than past achievements, the General Assembly underscored IP4OS’s commitment to innovation and collective progress.
