The IP4OS Community of Practice is launching a new online series, “From Team Experience to Profession Deepening”, bringing together multi-professional teams and professionals from across the European research and innovation landscape to exchange experiences, deepen expertise, and explore the practical connections between Intellectual Property (IP) and Open Science (OS).

The opening session will bring existing multi-professional teams back together three to four months after their training to reflect on their experiences. Teams will have the opportunity to share what has worked, discuss challenges and lessons learned, identify next steps, and exchange ideas with peers across the European Community of Practice.

The series will then continue with three Profession Deepening Modules, each focusing on how a specific research or research-supporting profession can contribute to a concerted IP-OS approach.

The sessions are open not only to existing multi-professional teams, but to anyone interested in the IP4OS concept and its practical application. This includes professionals who want to deepen their knowledge of specific research and research-supporting professions, institutions interested in introducing the IP4OS workflow, and new teams exploring how to establish a multi-professional approach.

Programme

27 October | Community Reunion and Exchange

The series opens with a community reunion for existing multi-professional teams. Participants will share their experiences since the training, discuss what worked and what proved challenging, and identify opportunities for further development. The session will also introduce available IP4OS resources, including the IP4OS Toolbox, and gather feedback and ideas from the community.

3 November | Profession Deepening Module for Librarians
Managing Copyright and Licensing for Reuse

This module explores how library professionals can support researchers in making informed decisions that balance Open Science practices with commercialisation to maximise social and economic impact. Topics include copyright and open licensing in commercialisation strategies, funder compliance and Open Access obligations, secondary publication rights and embargo periods, publishing choices, data management plans, and the connection between Open Access and knowledge valorisation.

10 November | Profession Deepening Module for Knowledge & Technology Transfer Professionals
Knowledge Transfer via a Concerted IP-OS Approach

This session brings together European knowledge and technology transfer professionals to explore how Intellectual Property management and Open Science can work as complementary instruments within different knowledge valorisation strategies. Discussions will address publication and patent timing, commercialisation, patenting and Open Access publishing, researcher consultation, collaboration across IP, Open Science, legal and data support, and ways of breaking down institutional silos to maximise impact.

17 November | Profession Deepening Module for Research Managers
Managing IP & Open Science Strategies for Innovative Valorisation Pathways

This module focuses on the strategic bridging role of research managers in connecting Intellectual Property management and Open Science. Participants will explore how research managers can support researchers' decisions around collaboration, protection, sharing, and timing, with topics including valorisation strategies from the outset of a project, Data Management Plans as early IP-OS reflection tools, coordination between services and stakeholders, multi-professional consultation teams, tailored protection and dissemination strategies, and embedding IP-OS alignment into institutional workflows.
